Scuncio Wins Race #2 at Barber – De Phillippi Finishes 3rd

Birmingham, AL (April 1, 2012) – Juncos Racing dominates Race #2 at Barber Motorsports Park with Martin Scuncio taking first place and Connor De Phillippi finishing third in the chase for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear.

Scuncio, 20, driving the #22 Pullman Bus Juncos Racing car claimed his first win of the season and of his career in Star Mazda winning Race #2 along with finishing fourth in Race #1 at Barber Motorsports Park.

“I’m so excited to have my first win here at Barber,” said Scuncio. “Juncos Racing put together a great car for both races today, and I’m happy to bring home first place to them. We had a great day overall for Juncos Racing finishing both races in the Top 5. I want to thank the entire crew at Juncos Racing and my family.”

De Phillippi, 19, in the #2 ModSpace Motorsports Juncos Racing car finished the second weekend of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear in the Top 5 for both races. De Phillippi claimed two more Top 5 finishes, ending the day fifth in Race #1 and third in Race #2 at Barber Motorsports Park.

“Overall the weekend went pretty well, we finished both races the Top 5,” said De Phillippi. “We improved the car a lot for the second race and were able to get a podium finish which helps us in our battle for the championship. I want to thank all of the Juncos Racing crew for all of their effort giving me a fast car today and to congratulate Martin on his win today.”

Juncos Racing driver Diego Ferreira, 18, in the #57 TeamViso Venezuela Juncos Racing car finished his second weekend the Star Mazda series in the Top 10 for both races, ninth in Race #1 and eighth in Race #2, at Barber Motorsports Park.

“I’m really happy to have another weekend in the Top 10, especially since this is my first year in the Star Mazda series,” said Ferreira. “My team worked really hard all weekend to give me a fast race car and I’m happy to give them a Top 10 finish. I’m looking forward to driving the ovals starting in May and I am confident I will continue to have success this season. I want to thank Juncos Racing and EJ Viso for all of their support and help.”

Bruno Palli, 20, in the #15 TeamViso Venezuela Juncos Racing car had unfortunate luck this weekend finishing 13th in Race #1 and ending early due to contact in Race #2 finishing 20th at Barber Motorsports Park.

“We struggled this weekend in both races at Barber,” said Palli. “I wish we could have had a better finish like we did in St. Pete, but we have a long season and a lot to learn. I want to thank Juncos Racing and EJ Viso for all of their help in my rookie season in Star Mazda.”

Ricardo Juncos, Team Owner, is pleased with how all of Juncos Racing performed this weekend and now has two wins for the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear.

“We had a very successful weekend here at Barber,” said Juncos. “All of the team worked hard and the drivers pushed hard in both races today. We have a very competitive field of cars and I am so happy to have two wins for the season in the first two weekends. I want to thank all of my team Juncos Racing, the drivers, my family, and all of those who continue to support the team.”
