Lexington, Ohio (July 30, 2018) – Juncos Racing’s Victor Franzoni picked up a Top-5 finish in the Indy Lights Championship Presented by Cooper Tires this past weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
The weekend started with one practice session followed by two qualifying sessions on the 2.258 mile, 13-Turn road course located just outside of Lexington, Ohio.

Franzoni qualified seventh for Round 12 and would take the fourth starting position for Round 13.

Round 13 proved to be an action packed with multiple incidents and great passing. Franzoni, driving the No. 23 Soul Red Mazda car started in the back of the field. The young Brazilian was able to make some great passes and was fighting for a podium finish. Franzoni would settle for a fourth place finish.

Round 14 did not fair as well for Franzoni. After losing two positions on the start, he made slight contact with another car and was penalized with a drive through penalty. Franzoni finished sixth.

“It wasn’t our best weekend but it wasn’t out worst weekend,” said Franzoni. “We did not test here so it was difficult to find the pace that the rest of the field had. In Round 14 we were super fast. Juncos Racing gave me an amazing car. But I got a drive through penalty for contact that I had. It is what it is at this point. I think we learned a lot this weekend, but overall we a learning a lot this season. It has been very difficult but we have learned a lot which is the most important thing. I am confident for the next race at Gateway and I am looking forward to going there.”

Team Principle Ricardo Juncos said, “Overall the weekend had its ups and downs. Victor (Franzoni) has had a tough couple of weeks, so he did a great job setting that aside and going out to lay down some great laps this weekend. He had a great race in Round 13, and was so close to getting on the podium. He made some excellent passes and had a smart race overall. We will set our focus on the final oval of the season in a few weeks at Gateway and look to finish out the championship on a strong note.”

The 2018 Indy Lights Championship continues August 24-25 with Round 15 at Gateway Motorsports Park.
