Long Beach, California (April 13,2019) – After a tough start for Juncos Racing in their first two events of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Kyle Kaiser and Will Owen delivered the team their best finish taking seventh-place at the BUBBA burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach this weekend.

The third event for the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship took place on the 1.968 mile, 11-Turn street course located in downtown Long Beach, California. Drivers Kyle Kaiser (Santa Clara, California) and Will Owen (Castle Rock, Colorado) teamed up in the No. 50 Juncos Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R car for the two day event.

Juncos Racing made many improvements and continued to make gains on their pace throughout each session. American Kyle Kaiser qualified 10th.

The 100-minute race would be decided on strategy and yellow flags for Juncos Racing. Kaiser piloted the car for the first stint. Juncos Racing went on their own strategy during the second yellow early in the race, deciding to keep the car on track while the rest of the field made their first pit stop. Kaiser went on to lead 14 laps and was able to create a nice gap before their first and only pit stop. Owen jumped in the car for the second stint while the team hoped for a yellow to put him back in the lead. Unfortunately, the race would go green for the final half and Owen would settle for a seventh-place finish. Even though the team did not get the finished they hoped for, they finished off the weekend with their best result this season.

Kyle Kaiser (Santa Clara, California): “Overall I am very happy with the progress the team has made this week. We executed a lot of things really well. The car mechanically held together great especially on this bumpy street course. Hats off to the team for making some changes and getting everything figured out and working properly. It was great working with Will (Owen) all weekend. We learned a lot from each other and worked really well together. There is more to gain for sure, but this being the team’s third race and leading as many laps as we were able to was a fantastic result. We went a little bit off of strategy from everyone else to get up front. Once up front we had to execute on old tires to keep the lead and we managed to make a solid gap. When Will did the driver change he got to start ahead of the pack and we had a chance at actually wining the race. To end the weekend seventh in our #50 Cadillac DPi-V.R car feels great. I want to thank everyone at Cadillac, IMSA, Michelin, and Juncos Racing for everything.”

Will Owen (Castle Rock, Colorado): “We finished the Bubba Burgers Grand Prix of Long Beach with our #50 Juncos Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R car. We made a lot of improvement and came a long way this weekend. We made some gains as a team and executed the program really well. We had great pit stops and great pace. We still have a lot to learn and improve on, but we were able to get through this weekend without any major issues and lead some laps. We made a gamble on our strategy that would have paid off with one more yellow to come at a certain time and would have put us in first. Even though we didn’t get the yellow we were still able to finish seventh. Overall I feel great with the direction we are heading in and look forward to getting back on track in a few weeks at Mid-Ohio.”
